COMMAND-AIRE 5-C-3 609
SHORT-LIVED COUNTRY CLUB AIRPLANE
This airplane is a Command-Aire 5-C-3 (S/N W65; ATC# Pending)
manufactured March 16, 1929 by Command-Aire, Inc., Little
Rock, AR. It left the factory with a Curtiss Challenger
engine (S/N 71) of 170 HP. It was a three-place airplane
weighing 2,303 pounds gross.
We find 609 at Tucson on May 6, 1929 flown solo by Charles
M. Taylor. He was westbound from El Paso, TX. He
remained overnight in Tucson and departed for Yuma the next
morning at 8:30. He was participating in a Sportsman
Pilot Tour, which is described on his link.
Our airplane had a short life. On July 29, 1929, barely
three months after it landed at Tucson, it was reported by
Command-Aire, Inc. that the airplane was, “completely
dismantled and to be used about the factory.” File
cancelled August 16, 1929.
